Martha's Recovery from Double Knee Surgery
Tom: Oh, that’s when she had her knee operated on — she had both knees replaced, she’s got metal in there today, and they put her on an exercise program. And they operated on her one day and had her on her feet the next day, her knees just a big ol’ bloody mess, they had her walk from about that room and back, just to walk, and they told her what she had to do in the way of exercise.
So she got home and she started doing that exercise and adding a little to it, a little to it, and she got to the point it was time for her to go to a therapist, so I took her over to the therapist, and he said “well, let’s see what you can do,” and he said “you’re already doing what I do when I release people, so you don’t have to be here.”
They told her she couldn’t drive for three months or so, and we were in the car one day in the subdivision, it hadn’t been two or three weeks, and she did that exercise so much that she had everything just way ahead of schedule, and I said “I think you can drive,” she said “no, they said I couldn’t drive for three months,” I said “well, let’s see what you can do.” So I pulled over to the side and she got behind the steering wheel and took off, brake, accelerated, she said “I can drive!”
So she was driving within half the time, but she did everything they said to do plus. And the results have been today she can do a lot more than I can.
